I which a Pld and a Rdm duo Charybdis [May. 29th, 2009|10:08 am]

[Current Mood |accomplished]

This is hardly game breaking as many jobs have soloed this mob, including Paladin! EDIT: Has a paladin ever soloed it? Not sure anymore
However if you mention that you're killing Charybdis and people ask what tank you have, when you say Paladin they normally respond with a "That's nice, but who's tanking?".

In which I have to think back 18 months... [Apr. 27th, 2009|10:43 am]

[Current Mood |guiltyguilty]

So, here I am again after nearly a year and a half!
And I thought I was behind before...

It turns out I started writing a post before I left, but all I have saved is the pictures.
So I'll write some words to go with it then start on a post about the last year and a half.

Still at level 72 I spent another good evening in the Labyrinth, grabbing several NMs and having a generally enjoyable time.

It started with Soulstealer...

who once more refused to give me my Kard :(

Some easy gil from Peg who popped quickly this time...

Some Hellion...

Then I spyed something unusual on widescan!
Quickly I ran over and sure enough, there was the Lord himself.

I dragged him away to the Manta room and proceeded to wear him down slowly. Unfortunately my inexperience with draw-in led me to eat a waterga. Feeling a little beat up I went around a corner to rest mp while my pet chipped away at him.

Sadly, he never came back. I turned the corner with my new pet to find a sad sight that is all to common for Beastmasters, a purple name.
So I found my NM stolen by some people who I thought were above that sort of thing. I knew the original Twix, and it's sad to see his character so used.

Luckily the evening ended on an up-beat, I stole some monies off of my girlfriend and went to try another attempt at getting a Hauby+1.
I only wanted enough so I'd have exactly 3.3 Million but my girlfriend gave me slightly over, that little bit turned out to be the difference between whitebox and a sad face.

:) Going through my screenshots now, hopefully I'll start posting more regularly.

A post closer to the future! [Nov. 23rd, 2007|04:38 pm]
[Current Mood |chipperchipper]

Here we are once more, losing the battle to catch up to the now.
I spent most of 71 at the Watchtower fighting Colibri against Colibri. There's an almost perfect number to camp there, converting one bird in each 'area' to Even Match, then fighting alongside your pet with Ninja sub. Some of the fights will be a little close to getting your pet killed, but with ninja sub you can tank a short while.
One problem, atleast on Titan server, is that RMT like to use this place as a camp for their thf thf nin nin blm whm parties. That can be a little irritating.

I also used the Leech vs. Colibri camp when it was free, as it was better xp.

I ended up hitting 72 at the Caedarva Mire camp, fighting Jnun, not the greatest rate, but atleast there was no one camping on top of me.

Then I headed up to Sky to XP. I'd been looking forward to this camp for a long time, it's such a beautiful area and the total lack of people sounds so very very nice...
...and it was wonderful. Sure the Xp wasn't great, but it was so relaxing and enjoyable.

There are six birds to every half of an island, on the top level. So you convert one of each pair to EM and move in a circle, by the time you've killed the third one the first will be up, or nearly up if you fought EMs all the way round.
Of course, how relaxing it can be depends on how much you like tanking :P

I tended to pull hate a lot and make full use of my shadows so gogo parry! Also be careful when using Sic as the Water Elementals move around a lot, and they can cast Poisonga 2, which isn't very enjoyable with Ninja sub.
Considering how long it takes to heal back up after a poisonga 2, you can be at low hit points for a while...which can lead to the following happening:

I didn't recast shadows, started on 500 HP and so mischarm led to death. Luckily I got my reraise scroll off, despite only using it at 13 HP.

I promptly warped and went in search of something else to do.

Neurotics blog and the idea of all those NMs in close proximity led me to the Labyrinth of Onzozo.
It's not the friendliest of places, what with so many monsters around and so few safe spots. Fortunately at my current level of 72 none of the mobs agro until you get to the Torama room, so that made things easier.

The first NM I found was Mysticmaker, sitting up and no one around, so I promptly engaged him and invited one of the random people in the area to party, as I've had my earring a long long time.

I then got a chest key so went off in search of the chest, which didn't take long:

Gogo map! Makes things a lot nicer. Despite the length of time I've spent here in the past, I never really got the layout down in my head.

Next NM to pop was.... Mysticmaker again!

Once more there was no one camping so I gave it to some friends from the Dynamis shell I'm in, who were in the area camping Ose.

Finally Helion popped for me so I went to work on him using the Toramas from the nearby tunnel...

Unfortunately I didn't drag my pets far enough away from their spawn points, and Doom Toads have the annoying habit of Diseasing pets...leaving my kitties sitting around at 8% and not going anywhere.
For this reason I carry around a stack of Jug Pets everywhere I go, so I was able to stick CC on him while I waited for my pets to regen.
One thing to notice is that he hits very hard, taking 600 HP off me in one round :(

A nice 12k and a new Scythe to skillup with, not bad.

During this battle Ose popped, and things weren't looking good for my friends over there, as a Whm and a Pld/Nin.
I'm assuming the evil combination of Enparalyse and no refresh kicked in. Luckily I was there to save the day...sorta.

You see they already had some form of hate....so Berico bit the dust pretty soon and Menawa followed not to long after, it didn't help that they rested near Ose as well, but if you aren't a Bst, you don't normally learn these things.
I do every action outside of 30 range, which is on the edge of the radar, this way you don't get any hate for your actions, such as heel, curing etc. Take note that if there is a difference in height between you and your target this number will change, so give yourself a bit more distance in those situations.
In the end I got it down, using CC for that last % to be certain of nothing going wrong...and wait for it...

DORP!!!
And of course the person it was for, Menawa, promptly D/C'd...

And got back just in time!

It is worth mentioning now that I refused to level my Drg past 67 until I got an Assault Jerkin...so I camped Ose a lot, trioing mostly with me on Rdm, my brother on Thf and a friend on Nin. We killed it many times until we finally got a drop on kill number 7ish....which was then ninja-lotted by a level 60 jap Rdm, whos party had offered to help me get the drop...the Rdm didn't say a word for 10 minutes, until they said mistake in auto-translate and left.
I finally got the second drop around kill 30...so Ose has always been a hated enemy of mine.

Next NM I got was Peg Powler, who took a long long time to pop, I guess around 5 hours.

A very simple fight, made longer by the occasional Regeneration.

And Drop! For my War...who tried it once skilling up and promptly switched to a level 8 GAX so that my G/f could tank on Rdm for shield skillups, oh well.

And of course, after being there for so long, another Mysticmaker:

Who put out again for the AFK camper Bellows!

After that I headed to the Boyahda Tree to skillup with my G/f, but Aquarius was up, so of course I killed him!

With my G/f in my party, stealing my Gilz!

Sorry this update took so long, I kept getting distracted in the middle, or something would happen to change my mood and I'd stop writing.
Hopefully soon I'll actually catch up to now....hey stop laughing! It could happen...

Most popular camp on the block... [Nov. 5th, 2007|07:37 pm]
[Current Mood |bouncybouncy]

I think everyone has the same experience at this camp, a love hate kind of relationship.
My brother loved this place, and I always looked forward to it. Once I got here however I hated it. It started with a duo, which went very slowly, I was 68 and charming toughs, which wasn't a problem, but the guy I was with wasn't paying too much attention, and kept running off in the wrong direction.
I came back here a few times solo and did get some nice xp at times. It really started rolling once I hit 69.

The experience was crazy at times, when I was able to find the camp free. Luckily I got a few good runs in probably due to my timezone. There were a lot on anon people on random jobs leveling with beastmaster sub.

Most of these people did not care that you were there already, they'd just move right in and start charming mobs. Most of them were the kind of beasts that didn't care when their pet died, and so soon after they arrived there would only be my pet around. This was one of the most frustrating things for me.

Eventually I hit 70! Return of the ninja sub and somehow linked with having no food on because it keeps getting eaten. Also brought the very purty Optical hat and some trainers gloves....but they were never on the AH!
Everyone NPC's them for more than they AH for.

Before I headed out again I put one of my merits in MP, I will get rid of it if I ever end up finishing HP, which is 6/8 currently. I don't merit at all anymore, so chances of me finishing that are rather rare. For those that don't know, Rune axes give a 5 HP regen when engaged but drain 3 MP a tick, so that doesn't sound very useful. However, if you have some form of refresh you'll tick up to 1 MP, then next tick the Axes will absorb it giving you 10 HP. So over time you get a 5 per tick regen. You can get the refresh from wearing either Gaudy Harness or getting Sanction Refresh. You also need some MP to begin with, which is where the 1 Merit comes in.

I also headed out to Caedarva Mire in a duo, it wasn't the greatest xp, but it was better than anywhere else when the Collibri were taken. We would use sheep or Oil Slicks versus the three Jnun then I'd go pull an Imp from the merit camp. This worked very nicely til a party camped at the Imp spawns so no more Imps for us. It was a nice to mix it up a little with camps.

Sometimes the besieged mobs would run through, bringing FPS to a grinding slideshow. As a side note I spent about an hour dodging that Grand Marid because someone had told me they agro. I finally got brave enough to run around it and boy did I feel foolish when it didn't agro.
Shortly after this a party moved in to xp off the collibri because apparently everywhere else was taken. I had to resort to taking Tigers waiting for the few bird pops I could get.
To make matters worse an RMT party arrived, had a look around, then started fighting the marids. I could see how this was going to end so I watched and sure enough the first chigoe pop slaughtered them. Unfortunately the blm got a bind off on the chigoe so I didn't get to fight it for xp, but it did get him in the end.
They left after the whm homepointed and raised them.

My experiences with other people were not all bad however. One person came and camped on top of me, so I asked why he felt he had to do that. He said it's great xp here and he wants it.
This pissed me off no end, as always, but I tried reasoning with him, explaining how I'd seen him here before, and left him alone. Also how when you just want to enjoy bst, it's not fun having to fight for claims. He listened, understood and said he'd leave. I told him when I left and he moved in then. So don't give up!

Here I dinged 71. This person had arrived a moment before, seen me and left. I sent them a /tell saying I was about to leave anyway.

And of course the good old Merrow No. 5 kills...
I started killing this a long time ago with my brother on Beast and me on Red Mage, the fight goes very quickly that way, I grav it and kite. I've yet to see it drop though, I'm somewhere around 0/15 now.
Here's me duoing with the other Beast in my LS.

Another Camp, this time on Blu/Bst with rediculous +chr (+70?)...I used to come out here whenever I had a spare moment to see if it was up.

So I called in the reserves!

...and of course no drop...I did however finally learn Tail slap!
So I went back to Bird camp and got this action shot! (Nice Rampage too)

I went for a wander the other day to all sorts of random places, fought some very random NM's including this one:

I was in the area having a brief look around for the Resentment Cape NM, and this one was up, took two CCs to bring it down for this drop...

Now I have no idea what the drop from this is....but I'm going to go out on a limb here (limb lol, Tree NM hehe get it?) and say that this wasn't it. (Ok, you can shoot me now).
I then headed to Gustav Tunnel to Camp Goblinsaviour Heronix, which of course took me over four hours to pop...and I forgot to take a screenshot of the battle so you'll have to live with one of the Battlelog.

I was very happy to get this, I used to have one from when I leveled War (My first job to 50) and tossed it a while ago for room. It took me a few kills to get this.

Now of course what NM hunt would be complete without an Aquarius kill...

And as a throw-back to the old days...I killed using CC because an anon Ninja was following it around...

Don't tell anyone else...but it's very nice gil to kill some of these NMs, it's a good way to have fun and make a little money on the side.

My cunning plan was to use Aquarius to kill all the Rabbits in the hopes of spawning Unut, because the rabbits are so obnoxious to fight, and they are such terrible pets. And it worked!!

I've never fought this NM and really want to, it never pops for me....but of course within moments of it popping a skillup party grabbed it. *cry*

And so ends this update, I hope you've enjoyed it, I can't wait to catch up to what I've been doing recently.

Caught between a Puk and a hard place... [Nov. 1st, 2007|01:04 pm]
[Current Mood |busy]

After Caedarva Mire, I moved to Wajaom Woodlands to take Puks using Spiders. I went there when the spiders were still all T, so there was no way to distinguish between one level or two levels higher than me.
I started in a Duo, which helped me get settled in before he had to log.
With your help the highest level of spider can take any puk, but it can get very close sometimes due to TP moves.
It's safer to take the VT Puks using a pet swap at 80%, just do it on pull.

Sometimes you'll get some very nice Sickle Slashes, the highest I saw was 760.
As always I mixed it up with some wanderings in The Boyada Tree, but I never really settled there. I found my new random place to be killing Spiders against Spiders for webs and xp.
Just behind the best Puk camp there is a good place for this, so if you're waiting for the camp to clear you can get some gil.

I also had my first death since that one in The Tree. The typical pet swap into a zepher mantle along with a nice Whiff-Fest. Not even my Earth staff + jelly ring could save me then. Kind of frustrating but atleast the death rate these days is nothing like it was at low levels. I remember averaging more deaths than the level number.

I also got some nice pieces of gear for my Beast, first I got a lucky bid on a Panther Mask+1.
Everyone thought It was luck, but I claim a bit of skill involved, I'd watched this mask for weeks, as the poor person tried to sell it and it kept getting returned. Then a few more turned up on the AH and so he felt he had to put it up very very low.

It's not as useful as it might be, seeing as I have a Monster Helm which has 4 Chr and 5 Charm. But I tend to use the Mask 90% of the time, including melee, and only use the Helm when I'm charming a mob to farm with, or fighting an NM with Tough pets.

Or atleast, that's how I judge it. My new macros however equip both hats so I blink out during Leave, Charm and Fight. It doesn't always work but most of the time I blink avoiding the animation. This can be incredibly useful when fighting certain NMs, like Ose and Narasimha because you'll only get hit once instead of the normal twice, and for normal movement speed mobs you won't get hit at all.

I also picked up this torque, though the axe still eludes me. I spent all my points on this, which was a rediculously large number for it, but I'm satisfied with it.

Ending with a levelup picture, I leveled here until nearly 69, with a few attempts at the collibri camp which never really worked very well, mainly because they were duos. I came back to here many times when I couldn't get collibri though.

Time to start catching up on what's happened, I am now a level 72 Beastmaster.
I've been so busy at University, I haven't had time to sit down and update, because I'd rather be playing Beastmaster!

Well after the last post I had finally reached the level to head to Caedarva Mire and play around at the camp my brother had loved so much.
The problem I found was actually getting to this camp, because you have to catch a ship, or run from the Azouph staging point.
As I almost always have something else going on, such as sea or dynamis, I had to catch the ship everytime I wanted to level bst.
But, it was worth it!

I ran into a lot of different people here, whether they were camping on top of me, or duoing with me. One was a Japanese bst who didn't know that you could leave your pet and still get full xp.
63, 64, 65 went very quick here and I left when I dinged 66.

I like to break up long multi level camps by going random places, skilling up, fighting eps etc.
As such my scythe is reasonably high and I ran into Ellyllon again...

...and DROP!

To be honest, I was right in my last post, I haven't used it in a pratical situation yet, maybe one day when my Pup gets higher? Who knows, but I'll be ready!

Beastmaster once more! [Sep. 3rd, 2007|05:40 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Well I finally found time to level Beastmaster while my girlfriend was at work. We level Samurai+Bard and
Summoner+Paladin when we have time together.

I was tempted to head to the Aht Urhgan areas at my current 61, but someone had told me it was best to
wait, so I headed back to The Boyahda Tree.
I had tried here a while ago, but it took me forever to convert some pets to EM, and fights were taking too
long etc. Possibly I just wasn't in the mood!

This time I also had better gear, my little brother has gone to live in Canada for a year, so I have his
Apollo's staff, which I'm sure will make a difference.

Another 61 Beast was already there when I arrived, and as a duo always breaks up the monotony of some
levels, we teamed up.
Now most of you will know that you now get full XP without having to leave your pet, which is nice.
This guy knew it, so he no longer used leave, he'd just happily fight until his pet uncharmed and started
killing him, so I'd say something and he'd recharm and continue fighting.

This led to a few deaths on his part, and a death of mine when he linked a massive number of mobs.
After we both died he said he had to take a break, and gladly I left.

There was a 63 duo in the area as well, so I teamed up with them, despite the level difference. This was
fun, we chewed through mobs with no danger. Lazy Xp.
Unfortunately it was only 3k an hour, sometimes less, so while we were chewing through mobs, we weren't
getting far into our levels.

I ended up popping Ellyllon at one point by getting my pets killed (This was my secret plan all along, as
I'm 0/a bunch on the Helm) and we slayed it and got drop. One of the bsts already had the had the hat, so
he didn't want it. I let the other bst take it though, as I probably wouldn't use it much.

My brother went 1/10ish on the NM, killing it many times while leveling Bst, and when he finally got the
drop he found he couldn't wear it.

Eventually we decided we should try the new areas out, so we headed to the Bee vs. Leech camp.
I really don't know what to say about this camp, it was slow. I had to charm mobs one to two levels higher
then me the whole time, and didn't have to many mischarms, could be the Apollo's.
Xp did go up to 3.5k an hour, which was an improvement.

At one point we decided to take a Marid, with two people keeping it busy and one dealing with chigoes.

Unfortunetly they spawned faster then one person could take care of, so we gave up on the idea.
I divine seal curaga'd us to get hate on the Marid and spent the rest of the fight kiting while our pets
beat on it. It only attacked me twice, one miss and one shadow. I have far too much experience kiting.
It was interesting that it never gave up on chasing me. Only smacked the pets a couple of times during Barrier Tusk.

Eventually we all leveled and called it a day, after trioing for 7 hours.

A beginning [May. 29th, 2007|03:20 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Mood |chipperchipper]

Currently leveling beastmaster in Uleguerand Range, started off trying to do Rabbits vs. Snolls.
There are some nice parts about this, the rabbits (Variable Hare's) don't link, and don't agro. However, they spawn up to 2 levels above my current level of 59. This means a large portion of them are Tough.
I got a few chains off 99 etc. but it wasn't worth the effort of charming Toughs and dodging agro.

I also fought a couple of the T-VT Buffalo that wander the are, one charm length on a T takes 25% off. I killed a few but then discovered that I can't melee a VT Buffalo down from 1% health.
Luckily I had reraise with me, so I got up and headed back up the ramp to where the Tiger's roam.

Two rabbits spawn in a tunnel free from other monsters, so I converted them to Even Match by charming them then moving away. This reminded me a lot of the old days, pre-nerf, where you would create a Zoo of 2-3 Even Match monsters then go to town. However now they will despawn if you pull them outside the tunnel. So where you used to be able to Leave them and let them wander home on their own, you now have to Heel them back to the tunnel, then set them on fight again.
The tigers spawned quite high level, giving around 200-240 Xp each kill without pets, although if you don't have TP killing them without a pet can be quite dangerous, I have hit them 4+ times with them on 1% without killing them.
It takes two pet swaps to kill a Tough, three for a Very Tough, meaning the kills take 5-7 minutes, so chains are very rare and limited to chain 1.

As a bonus they drop Snow Lilys which are worth 9k each. Shortly after I arrived Varout came out with a group farming the Lilys for CoP CS's. While he was there three dropped for me, which I gave to him. I haven't had any drop in the hours since then though.

At one point I had another beast come by and charm one of my carefully bred pets while I was fighting then run off with it. This pissed me off no end, as taking what is obviously someones pet mid-fight is walking the MPK line. He later apoligised, and the pet respawned Even Match, so no lasting harm done. Gave him a raise a short time later when he died while AFK.

It turned out he was using Worms vs. Bats and Bats vs. Worms in the Cave behind me. I used them for a break every now and then, but there were only 3 worms and 2 bats. I hear there is another cave with more spawns in a different place, maybe I'll check it out later.

After one Empress band, 2 Anniversary rings I'm currently 1.5k til 60 with a charge still active. Getting slowly closer to ToA camps!
